An afternoon alone in the museum

One room, one painting, one hour. A slower way to look at art.

Most museum visits are a race: three floors, two hundred paintings, a coffee and the gift shop. We tried the opposite. One room. One painting. One hour.

Choosing the painting

Walk through the museum once without stopping, then go back to the work that stayed with you. It is rarely the most famous one.

What an hour shows you

After ten minutes, you see the subject. After twenty, the light. After forty, the brushstrokes, the corrections, the hand of the person who stood exactly where you stand.

Leaving

We walked out with one painting rather than two hundred. We will remember it for years.
