For years, summer meant white linen and pale colours. This season, something shifted. In Paris, in Milan, on the terraces of the lake, the people who caught our eye were dressed entirely in black.
It is not the black of winter coats. It is lighter, looser: black linen trousers, a silk shirt left open, a dress that moves in the evening breeze. It flatters every skin, hides the dust of travel and goes from lunch to dinner without a second thought.
The trick is texture. Mix a matte linen with a shiny silk, a soft knit with a crisp cotton, and black never looks severe. Add a single piece of gold jewellery and nothing else.
