Living with light: a Paris apartment

Original mouldings, patinated brass and one strict rule: nothing without a reason.

On the fourth floor of a Haussmann building, a couple has spent three years restoring an apartment to what it was always meant to be: a box for light.

They stripped back decades of paint to find the original mouldings, kept the oak floors scratched and honest, and allowed themselves only a handful of objects per room. Every piece has a reason to be there.

The result feels less decorated than edited. "We wanted the light to be the main furniture," they told us. It is.
